Here is my foggy recollection of the games:
Saturday. We got there early because coach wanted us to practice for like three or four hours before the match. Luckily, it takes me two hours to tape and get me boots on so I only practiced for about an hour. We played a team from Ontario, who, believe it or not, were larger and whiter than we were. That worked out in our favor because while we were pretty evenly matched, we were I think a bit fitter, having practiced like twice and there's still ice on the ground in Ontario.
We balance the attack pretty well, moving the ball and securing possession. We won 22-10.
Sunday. Coach wanted to practice for another couple of hours but we were lucky to put our boots on the right feet. Well, most of us. The kids were in good shape. Again, as luck would have it, the other team may have been in worse hangover shape. They were a collection of players from upstate New York. We negotiated for 20-minute halves. They were quite large and did a lot of damage in the loose. Still we were up the entire game, first 5-0, then 10-5. In the closing minute, they pounded repeatedly until we caved and scored and converted. 12-10, we lost.
Positives: Great play by young hooker Casey and young forward Nick. Also great to have Jeremiah back and he tackled like a fiend. Adam K. was solid at fullback, a new position for him and he looked very comfortable. Draha was a rock at 9 all weekend. We won our set pieces. We played fast, which is what coach is trying to get us to do.
